Alonzo Jay Marchant, 76, passed away at his home in Peoa, surrounded by his family, June 28, 1997.

He was born August 26, 1920 to Minerva Jean Casper and Alonzo Justice Marchant in Peoa. Jay married Shirley Young, December 30, 1946; she passed away in 1957. He married Flora Mitchell Baker, August 30, 1960. He graduated from South Summit High School in 1938 and attended BYU. Jay served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II, as a glider pilot in the South Pacific. He was a cattle rancher and a lifelong resident of Peoa. He served on the Weber River Water Commission, for 30 years. He also served many years on the South Summit Cemetery Board, North Hills Range Association board, Beaver Creek Cattleman's Association Board and American Legion. He was a member of the LDS Church, and a student of Church history.Survivors include his wife, Flora of Peoa; son, Bradley (Kathy Marchant of Peoa, UT; daughters Sheila (Scott) Nichols of West Valley City, UT; Rhonda (Rod) Fitzgerald of Kamas, UT; Jalynn (Glen) Jones of Peoa, UT; stepsons, Wes (Becky) Baker of Payson, UT; Wayne (Diane) Baker of Eagle River, AK; Crae (Gayle) Baker of West Valley City, UT; Ervin (Carol) Baker of West Jordan, UT; 40 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Moroni Marchant of Peoa, UT; sisters, Jean Olsen of Oxnard, CA; Erma Van Tassell of Neola, UT; Hazel Marrott of Salt Lake City, UT; Nancy Laird of Roy, UT; Elda Van Tassell of Oak-ley, ID; Grace Johnson of Midvale, UT; and Lula Allman of Provo, UT.

Preceded in death by brother, Glen Marchant.

Funeral services will be held at Peoa LDS Ward Chapel, Wednesday, July 2, 1997 at 12 noon. Friends may call at the church Tuesday evening, 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to service. Interment will be in the peoa Cemetery, under the direction of Crandall Funeral Home in Kamas.
