Our loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, John Joseph "Jack" McGuire, 77, of Salt Lake City, died June 5, 1997.
He was born January 30, 1920 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Vincent Thomas and Marie Held McGuire.He married Ila Tingley on October 10, 1941 in Salt Lake City. Served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was an avid sports enthusiast. He played football and basketball for Judge Memorial High School and later coached Little League baseball and basketball. He was an accomplished golfer and bowler. He was a member of the St. Ambrose parish of the Catholic Church. He was an auditor for U.D.O.T. for 25 years. He was a life member of B.P.O.E. No. 85 and No. 2344. He was extremely proud of his Irish heritage. He was a true Irishman. He was admired and loved by all.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ila McGuire; three children, Kathleen Tuckey; Patricia Jo McGuire; and John Timothy McGuire; all of Salt Lake City; three grandsons, Gregory John (Shanda) Black of Woods Cross.; Jason Andrew Tuckey; and Canyon Joseph McGuire, both of Salt Lake City; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Gregory Black and Kennedee Marie Black. He was preceded in death by his brother, Vinny McGuire.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the St. Ambrose Vaughn Center, 2315 Redondo Avenue, Salt Lake City, Utah 84108.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 1975 South 2300 East. A vigil service will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at Neil O'Donnell and Sons Mortuary, 372 East 100 South, where friends may call from 3-4 p.m. Committal, Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 4th Avenue and "T" Street.
