Hollywood may have its Academy Awards in March, but New York City has its Crystal Apple Awards in June.

The annual Gracie Mansion gala for New York's film industry is scheduled for Wednesday evening, June 11.Traditionally, the Crystal Apples honor actors, directors and producers notable for a body of work in the city - this year, Danny Aiello, Ron Howard, Jerry Orbach, Jane Rosenthal and Scott Rudin. But the little apples from the Big Apple will also go to two relative newcomers, Greg Mottola, who made "The Daytrippers," and Edward Burns, who achieved renown as the director of "The Brothers McMullen."

"We wanted to acknowledge them, as well as all the talented independents who are very much a part of our future as well as our present," said Patricia Reed Scott, the commissioner of the mayor's Office of Film, Theater and Broadcasting.
