Dr. John M. Matsen, vice president of health sciences at the University of Utah, has been elected chairman of the board of the Utah Association of HealthCare Providers.
Serving with him on the executive committee will be Dr. Kent Richards, senior vice president of medical affairs for Intermountain Health Care, chairman-elect; Tom Hanrahan, vice president of IHC's Northern Region, past-chairman; and Daniel Brothman, president of the Utah Division of Columbia Healthcare, secretary-treasurer.Others are David L. Jones, vice president of Paracelsus Health-care; Mark Stoddard, president of Rural Health Management Corp., and Rich Kinnersley, UAHP president and chief executive of-ficer.
New board of trustee members are Steven Bateman, administrator at the Ogden Regional Medical Center; Robert Cash, administrator at the Brigham City Community Hospital; and Brad LeBaron, administrator at the Uintah Basin Medical Center.
Kinnersley said Utah's hospital and health-care systems will be seeking more involvement in resolving community health needs this year.
Earlier this year, the association eliminated the house of delegates system that met twice yearly in favor of instituting four effective constituency councils that meet more often to speed up the project process.
Also, the board of trustees was increased from 16 to 18 members to get a broader membership representation and decreased the number of meetings annually from six to four.
Last month, the board of trustees approved new vision and mission statements that expand the role of Utah's hospitals and health systems to become more directly involved in community health issues by linking activities with community agencies and resources to address broader health-care needs, Kinnersley said.
