Lt. Col. J. R. "Ray" Emery, ret., loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away July 23, 1997.

Born September 7, 1920 in Salt Lake City to John Pierpont and Selma Emery. Married Helen Bernice Knoth, December 21, 1943. Graduated from East High School and the University of Utah. Career officer in the US Army and retired after 27 years of service. Veteran of World War II and the Vietnam War. Awarded the Air Medal. Following retirement from the military, employed as Deputy Director for Salt Lake County Emergency Services. Ray enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and was an avid ham radio operator.Survivors: his wife; daughter, Judy Anne (Mark) Brown; sons, Howard (Shirlene); Jerry (Karen) and Alan (Gayle), all of Salt Lake City; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Monday, 11 a.m.-12 noon, with graveside service to follow at 12:30 p.m. at Salt Lake City Cemetery, 4th Ave. and N. St.
