Dr. Richard E. Huish, a Tacoma, WA. Ob/GYN for over 30 years passed away July 23, 1997.

During his career in Tacoma, he was a happy and successful husband, father, brother, doctor and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dr. Huish was born in Salt Lake City April 23, 1932, but was raised in Berkeley California with his parents and younger twin brothers. He attended Brigham Young University and the University of California Medical School in San Francisco, earning his MD in 1956. Richard and his wife, Rogene were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1951. After medical school, Dr. Huish joined the medical staff of the US Army, where he was assigned to Germany for three years. Returning in 1960, the young Huish family came to Seattle, where Dr. Huish completed his residency program and specialized in Ob/GYN.In 1964, Dr. Huish moved to Tacoma, WA. where he established his medical practice. He estimated that over his medical career, he delivered approx. 10,000 babies, including two generations in many cases. During this time, he served on the board of the Tacoma General Hospital and as President of the Pierce County Medical Association.

Dr. Huish had several opportunities to work within the leadership of the local Mormon Church organization and loved the close relationships with church and community members.

Upon retirement in 1994, Dr. Huish combined church service with his medical training by serving with his wife in different roles as a doctor/missionary couple for the Mormon Church in both Jerusalem, Israel and Moscow, Russia.

Dr. Huish is survived by his eternal companion, Rogene; his children, Court, Matt, Craig, Anne, Steven and Ruth; 16 grandchildren; his brother, John and other extended family. He will be missed by many. He was a wonderful example of service.

Memorial services will be held in Tacoma, WA. on Monday, July 28, 1997. Burial will be in Salt Lake City. A viewing will be at noon Tuesday, July 29, at the Larkin Mortuary at 3rd and So. Temple. Friends and associates welcome.
