A brush fire that started in the Payson landfill on West Mountain in Utah County burned 15 acres before it was contained late Saturday afternoon.
Uinta National Forest spokesman Loyal Clark said the "Payson Dump" fire was human-caused and actually started just north of the landfill.Five acres of private land burned before it moved into 10 acres of Bureau of Land Management property.
Firefighting units from Payson, Salem, Goshen and Genola responded with brush trucks and hand crews. Utah County also responded along with the Forest Service helicopter to make water drops.
The fire burned pinyon and juniper, and a squad of 10 worked to contain it by 8 p.m.
Clark said crews headed home at approximately 3 a.m. but turned around when a report of a second dump fire came in.
