Authorities seized about 1,200 videos they say are "triple-X" from a downtown magazine store Saturday night.
Undercover officers began to investigate Bob's Magazine Corner, 360 S. State, after some Salt Lake area residents complained to police that their family members were buying pornographic videos from the store, said Salt Lake Police vice squad Sgt. Ken Hansen.Only cable versions of pornographic films are legal in Utah. "The tapes weren't legal cable version types," Hansen said.
Undercover officers bought several of the videos at the shop and discovered the tapes were only sold on cash transactions, Hansen said. The cash-iers would put the money in the their pockets instead of the cash register.
While serving a search warrant Saturday, officers "located a large number of tapes that look like the triple-X variEty," Hansen said.
The cashier on duty was taken into custody.
Police will view the first 30 to 60 minutes of a number of tapes to determine if they could be considered obscene in a court of law, Hansen said.
