DOG JOG. The Dog Jog, sponsored by the Utah Veterinary Association, is Aug. 16 at Sugarhouse Park. The 5K run/walk has a $12 pre-registration fee. Call 328-8899.
TRIATHLON. The Southwest Triathlon - 3-mile run, 10-mile bike and 250-meter swim - starts at 8 a.m. in Riverton. A $22 pre-registration fee includes T-shirts, trophies and prizes. Call 467-4203.

OULESSEBOUGOU. The Oulessebougou 5K starts Aug. 16 at 8 a.m. at the UofU Hunstman Center. Call 978-2452. Registration is $15 or $18 day of race.
HALF MARATHON. The Great Salt Lake half marathon begins Aug. 23 at 7 a.m. at Island View Park in Clearfield and ends on Antelope Island. A $20 registration fee includes a T-shirt and transportation back from the island. Call 774-7270.
30 MILER. The Wasatch Indians 30-miler starts Aug. 23 in Mantua and finishes at Pineview Reservoir. Call 394-1689.
HALF MARATHON. The Hobble Creek half marathon is Aug. 23 at 8 a.m. Registration is $19. Call 223-7010.

Tennis
LESSONS. Farmington is offering youth lessons starting at age 5. Call for registration times. $20 per participant.

Baseball

TALENT SHOWCASE. The 2nd Annual Fall Baseball Showcase for the Rocky Mountain States will be Aug. 11-13 at Dixie College in St. George. Players from Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, Montana, Colorado and New Mexico will be accepted, limited to 8 teams or 100 players. HILL CLIMB. Snowbird is the site for the annual Rocky Mountain Cycling Club hill climb, Aug. 23 at 9:30 a.m. The 10-mile 3,500-foot climb starts at 9400 South 2100 East and ends at Snowbird. Call 521-6040.
MOAB BIKE PATROL. The Moab bike patrol is implementing its trail marking and maintenance program for 1997. The project is open to anybody who wants to help, generally on the second Saturday of each month, to maintain some of the world's great bike trails and promote the sport. Grand County Search and Rescue has reported fewer rescue incidents as a result of past trail-marking and maintenance projects. TRYOUTS. The Sliders 14-under softball team will hold fastpitch tryouts Saturday, Aug. 16 at Dewey Bluth Field, 9800 south 150 East. Call 572-4016.

SHOOTING. The Provo Gun Club is sponsoring a weekend of trap shooting Aug. 16-17. Call 465-3254.
WHEELS. Associated Wheels of Utah, meets the 2nd Monday of each month at Round Table Pizza on 54th South and Redwood Road to plan the Annual Charity Car Show. Proceeds go to help individuals with mental retardation. All are invited to attend, club member or not. 364-5060.
CHILD CARE PROGRAM. Salt Lake Country Parks and Rec is offering a fun child care package at Peruvian Park Elementary School. 576-6519.
FLY FISHING. There will be a fly fishing class at Fish Tech Outfitters, 6153 S. Highland Drive, on Aug. 14. Cost is $40. Rods and reels will be supplied to those who need them. 272-8808.
