Biker-rock guru Davie Allan is cooling his engines while two new releases make the rounds.
The first is "Batmania: Songs Inspired by the `Batman' TV Series" (Varese Sarabande), a CD featuring material associated with the comic book hero, including guitarist Allan's 1989 "Batman Theme."Allan also has a new vinyl single out, "The Born Losers Theme" backed with "The Glory Stompers," two remakes of B-movie themes Allan first cut in the '60s.
"We were talking about doing a whole album of remakes of my '60s film things," Allan said. "But this Pennsylvania label, Get Hip, was interested in doing a single."
Meanwhile, Davie Allan & the Arrows, the instrumental biker-rock quartet that played Los Angeles clubs over the past few years, is on hiatus while personnel matters are sorted out.
Allan got some bad news when AVI, the label that last year released the Arrows' acclaimed "FuzzFest" album, folded. The guitarist is currently trying to get the disc issued in Japan and hopes to tour that country soon afterward.
Allan, a onetime session guitarist for Mike Curb, formed the original Arrows while still in high school in Van Nuys, Calif. His "Blues' Theme," from the film "The Wild Angels," was a top-40 hit in 1967 and was cited by Eddie Van Halen as an early influence.
