The woman who turned a hip injury into the famous television commercial line, "I've fallen and I can't get up," died Thursday. She was 81.
Edith Fore, of Mount Ephraim, died at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden.A former school nurse, Fore became nationally known when she was featured in commercials for Life Call, a medic alert system company.
Fore began making commercials after actually falling, hitting her head, and, with blood dripping into her eyes, activating her medic alert.
When Life Call responded, she gave her famous response, "I've fallen and I can't get up."
Life Call dispatched an ambulance and notified relatives.
"They saved her life that day," her daughter, Pat Logan, told the Courier-Post of Cherry Hill in an interview published Friday.
Life Call later selected Fore to appear in commercials giving testimonials about the rescue. The commercial first aired in 1990.
With her daughter at her side, Fore went on to appear on 70 radio programs and numerous nationally syndicated television shows. She also was interviewed by People magazine.
"The fame was very unexpected," Logan said.
Life Call later filed for bankruptcy, and the company is now known as Response USA.
