Fees are being charged for the first time at the popular Gooseberry Campground, which contains a cluster of buildings that are often used by Scouts and other large groups visiting the Fishlake National Forest.
"This is part of a new program which allows 100 percent of fees collected at specific locations to be returned for use at the location where they are collected," said Ted Fitzgerald, Richfield District ranger."The purpose is to test the effectiveness of collecting fees to help maintain federal recreation facilities and enhance visitor services and wildlife habitat throughout the country."
The $5 fee began July 22.
