Donna Arlene Jones Lofgren, 67, died suddenly of a heart attack on September 19, 1997. She was the cherished companion of David E. Lofgren for 48 years, a beloved mother of five children and a devoted grandmother to 27 grandchildren.

Donna was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on May 26, 1930, the fourth child of Ralph Pryce and Ruby Lilia Brown Jones. She was a graduate of South High School and attended the University of Utah. On May 4, 1949, she married David E. Lofgren in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.Words cannot write the sense of loss at her sudden passing. As a family we thank the powers in heaven for sharing her with us.

For the last several years she worked as a part-time hostess at the Lion House. She and her husband were currently serving as LDS Church Service missionaries in the Liberty 4th Ward.

Donna spent an entire life giving service as a wife, a sweetheart, a friend, a neighbor, and mother. For more than 21 years she gave constant loving care to grandchildren. Donna was a source of inspiration and an anchor to many. She looked for and appreciated the best in others. Donna will be missed more than can be measured. She had a special talent for organizing, creating and planning. Her Halloween parties for grandchildren were legendary, her rolls unparalleled and her pies never ending. She made being a homemaker a career of great artistry. She has served as ward Relief Society president, and a counselor in the Relief Society at both the ward and stake levels. She has been a teacher and leader in Primary and Young Women's organizations many times through her life.

She is survived by her husband, David E. Lofgren; son, David N. Lofgren and his wife Bonnie and their children David Anders, Nathan, Stephen, Kimberly, Jared, Lindsay, Katie, Anna and Tanner; daughter, Diane L. Mangum and her husband John and their children John Douglas, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Spencer, Jordan, and Jennie; son, Daniel C. Lofgren and his wife Deena and their children Daniel Jr., Nils, Mary Beth and Lars; daughter, Debra L. Nichols and her husband David, and their children Emily, Patrick, Alyssa and Sarah; and daughter, Denice L. Smith and her husband Daniel and their children Scott, Harrison, Taylor and Hunter. She is also survived by her brother Ralph H. Jones and his wife Arlene, and a sister Carol J. Sperry and her husband Arthur. Preceded in death by a sister Margaret and her parents.

Funeral services will begin at 12 noon on Wednesday, September 24, 1997, at the Valley View 4th Ward Chapel at 2025 East Evergreen Avenue (3435 South) in Salt Lake City. Friends may call at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday evening, and from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. Wednesday before the services at the ward chapel. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
