Romance isn't a lost art in marriage-happy Utah Valley. Mark Spongberg, 47, proposed to his girlfriend, Ann Irvin, 35, in an unusual manner Tuesday afternoon. During a catered lunch at the Squaw Peak lookout above Provo, an airplane flew by pulling a banner reading, "Ann Irvin, Will You Marry Me?" After Irvin said yes, the Orem residents boarded a helicopter that took them to the mountain top. There, the couple left a sign reading, "Mark Spongberg and Ann Irvin Together Forever," under a pile of rocks. They plan to hike to the spot after the wedding. Why all the fuss for a proposal? "I just couldn't do a down-on-my-knee-will-you-marry-me type thing," Spongberg said.
