Pierce, anchorwoman at KARE-TV and an experienced rider, fractured her spine in several places Saturday night when she was thrown from her horse at the State Fairgrounds Coliseum. She was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where she was in fair condition and expected to recover."It could have been a lot worse than it is," said her husband, Dennis Babcock. "Her spinal cord is undamaged; there's no paralysis, no need for surgery, and she'll heal on her own. But with this kind of fracture there's an extremely high level of pain."
