Ray Frank Gilbert, age 67, passed away unexpectedly on January 12, 1998, at his home in Sandy, Utah.
He was born on April 29, 1930, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to C. Frank and Florence Gilbert. He married Charlene Crapo, for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1955. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was an active member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in many callings. He possessed a passion and talent for teaching and touched the lives of numerous students throughout his distinguished career as an educator. He taught and shared his love of mathematics for 25 years at Skyline High School. He was currently at the Salt Lake Community College where he taught Engineering Math and Calculus. In addition to his teaching career he owned and operated Gilbert and Sons Striping. He loved and appreciated the outdoors and was an avid backpacker and fisherman.Survived by his wife, Charlene; five children, Bruce (Mary Dawn), Grant (Korinne), Douglas (Kelly), LuAnn (Richard) Nelson, Karen (Randy) Wach; 18 grandchidren; twin sister, Rita (Ralph) Reese; brother, Richard Martin (Nancy) Gilbert.
Funeral services Friday, January 16, 1998 at 11 a.m. in the Granite South LDS Stake Center, 2126 Gyrfalcon Dr. (10000 So.) Friends may call at Goff Mortary 8090 So. State Thursday 6-8 p.m. and Friday at the stake center from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment, Sandy City Cemetery.
