Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Virginia Cooper Matheson, age 87, passed from the joys and trials of mortality on January 21, 1998.

Virginia was born July 26, 1910, to Walter LeRoy and Mary Smellie Cooper in Salt Lake City. She married Kenneth Howard Matheson on October 9, 1930 in the Salt Lake Temple. He preceded her in death. As a life long active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Virginia served in many positions in the church's auxiliary organizations. She willingly gave of herself and sacrificed for the benefit of her family and friends throughout her life.She was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter LeRoy and John William Cooper and a sister Lucile Partington. Virginia is survived by five children: Kenneth Howard Matheson, Jr. (Marlene), Robert C. Matheson (Carol), Barbara M. Burton (H. David), Maurine Davies (Glen), Douglas C. Matheson (Vickie); 32 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wallace Noel Cooper (Rosemond), David Sherman Cooper (Jackie); two sisters Dorothy Attebury (Warren), and Elaine Losee (Virgil) and brother-in-law Heber C. Partington.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 26, 1998 at 2 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 South Highland Drive. Friends may call at the mortuary Sunday evening 6-8 p.m. and from 12:45-1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.

The family expresses their appreciation to all members of the Holladay Healthcare Center Staff, for their concern and care of Virginia during her stay.
