Our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Claude Marriman Williams, age 92, passed away in his home, January 22, 1998 in Spanish Fork, Utah.
Claude was born March 14, 1905 in Spanish Fork, the son of David and Sarah Ann Williams. He grew up as part of the Williams farming family. In 1925 he married his childhood sweetheart, Ruth Thomas. Claude and Ruth made their home in Spanish Fork where they lived all their lives. Claude was a farmer and cattleman. He was a staunch supporter of the beef industry through The Cattleman's Association. Claude and Ruth were members of the Knife and Fork Club. They loved to travel and in their later years were able to pursue their travel interests both in the United States and abroad.Claude held many positions in the community. He was the deputy tax assessor for 12 years, served on the Westfield Water Irrigation Board, was President of the Farm Bureau, Vice-President of the Kiwanis Club, and served as Dance Chairman for the Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was a High Priest in the LDS Church and served as president of the Mutual Improvement Association. Two jobs that he particularly enjoyed in his later years were as a substitute mail carrier and as chairman for his High School Reunion. He supported the Spanish Fork Cattle Auction. He was an avid Spanish Fork booster and proud of the Spanish Fork livestock show which he contributed to for many years. Claude was fiercely independent, choosing to remain in his own home, doing his own lawn and yard work until his death.
Claude is survived by his daughter, Frances Monson (Robert) of Salt Lake; his son, Dr. Paul Williams (Nadine) of Salt Lake; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Claude was preceded in death by his lifetime sweetheart, Ruth, and by his sisters: Jennie Swensen, Minnie Bradford, Priscill Olsen, Blanch Gardner, and by his brother, Edward Williams.
Funeral services will be held at the Walker Mortuary, 187 South Main, Spanish Fork on Tuesday, January 27, 1998 at 12 noon. Friends may call at the mortuary from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
