Robert Duvall had to dig deep into his own pockets to make his latest film, a pet project he began work on 13 years ago.
Duvall, who appeared in "The Godfather" and "Apocalypse Now," spent $5 million to make "The Apostle" - which he wrote, directed and starred in."People think I'd be able to get financing easily," Duvall said in an interview in The Outlook, a Santa Monica newspaper. "I think that's only if you're one of the top, top, top guys like (John) Travolta or (Tom) Hanks."
His accountant assured Duvall that bankrolling his own film would be a good idea. "The Apostle" opens around the nation Jan. 30.
