Beloved sister and aunt, Mary Goff Cardwell Smith, passed away October 2, 1998 in Salt Lake City.

Mary was born February 16, 1918 in Salt Lake City to George Arnold and Josephine Edna Morris Goff. She attended Highland Park Elementary, Irving Jr. High, South High, and Henager's Business College. In June 1939 she married her high school sweetheart, Eugene Cardwell in the Salt Lake Temple. Mary worked as a stenographer in the office of the First Council of Seventy for six years with J. Golden Kimball, Levi Edgar Young, and Richard L. Evans. In May of 1946 Eugene passed away and in June of the same year Mary went to work for Beneficial Life Insurance where she worked for the next 22 years. In April of 1968 Mary married Virgil H. Smith. Mary was an active member of the L.D.S. Church all her life and served in many Ward and Stake capacities. In 1976 Virgil passed away. Mary was a member of the Certified Professional Secretaries International Association, and was an active member and officer of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.Mary is survived by her sister, Kathryn G. May; five nieces and nephews and many members of the May and Smith family whom she loved very much.

Funeral services Tuesday, October 6, 1998, 11 a.m., Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 2350 E. 1300 South, where friends may call Monday evening 6-8 p.m. and on Tuesday, one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Lawn.
