Dannie R. McConkie (R)
Republican Dannie R. McConkie, 56, of Bountiful believes he's proven to be a positive leader, committed to responsible government for Davis County residents and deserving of re-election to Davis County Commission Seat A.
He's currently chairman of the commission and wants to continue to maintain a fiscally conservative budget process.
McConkie sees himself as a hard worker, dedicated to values instilled by his parents. He's also an eternal optimist, a good people person and a motivator.
He attended Dixie Junior College and worked 28 1/2 years with the Utah Department of Transportation on the radiation safety unit and the port of entry weighing systems statewide.
McConkie was a major contributor in efforts to raise $4 million to design the road, restrooms and other facilities on Antelope Island. He also formed a partnership with Utah State University to relocate the USU Botanical Gardens.
His volunteer and service activities includes work with the Boy Scouts, Little League baseball, football and soccer.
J. Dell Holbrook (D)
Democrat J. Dell Holbrook, 53, of West Bountiful, believes he did a good job four years ago as county commissioner and said being elected again would add a balance - a broader base of representation - to the commission.
He views himself as a pretty typical Utah kind of guy with no special interests.
A general contractor, he'd set his full-time job aside completely again, like he did in his previous County Commission Seat A term from 1991 to 1994, if elected.
He's a Bountiful native and attended Weber State University, studying political science. He graduated from Utah Technical College.
Holbrook was the city manager of West Bountiful for two years. He spent 24 years as a member of the Air National Guard.
He has been active in the Boy Scouts for almost three decades. He's a member of the Kiwanis Club in Bountiful, having served as a past president there.
Holbrook said he brings a businesslike perspective to government and has a realistic view of the world.
