Olympic champion Al Joyner said he always has drawn strength from the strong women in his life. Now he is looking to his 7-year-old daughter for inspiration.

"Without them, I couldn't have done any of what I have with my life," said Joyner, referring to his mother, Mary Ruth, his sister, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, and his late wife, three-time Olympic gold medalist Florence Griffith Joyner.Joyner's wife died Sept. 21 during an epileptic seizure in Mission Viejo, Calif. His daughter, Mary Ruth, will inherit the legacy of strength, said Joyner, the 1984 Olympic triple jump champion. "Now it's up to Mary, my mother's namesake," he said. "She's the future."
