CAPE TOWN, South Africa (Reuters) -- South Africa's tourism mecca Cape Town launched a close-circuit camera system on Wednesday to help make city streets safe for tourists flocking to the sun.

"We have pledged ourselves to increasing safety levels in the city so as to provide an enabling environment within which our tourist industry can flourish," Cape Town mayor Nomaindia Mfeketo said at the launch function of the cameras.
