MarJean G. Wright, 77, former executive secretary to Gov. George D. Clyde and administrative assistant to four Salt Lake County commissioners, died Dec. 9, 1998, of cancer in a West Jordan care center.

Mrs. Wright last worked with former Commissioner M. Tom Shimizu before retiring in 1983. In the county, she first served with Commissioner LaMont B. Gundersen and later with commissioners Oscar Hanson Jr. and William E. Dunn.She was executive secretary to Clyde from 1962 to 1964. In 1962, at the time she was administrative assistant to Hanson, she announced her candidacy for Salt Lake County recorder but lost in a close election.

Mrs. Wright was co-chairman of the Utah Nixon campaign in 1968, served as president of the Utah Business Women's Republican Club and secretary of the Utah Federated Women's Republican Clubs.

In 1969 she was chairwoman of the Utah delegation to the Republican Women's Conference in Washington, D.C. A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she had served in a Primary presidency and in the Young Women's Mutual Improvement Association, now known as Young Women. She was a member of the South Jordan 2nd Ward.

Funeral will be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 12, at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and an hour before services Saturday. Burial will be in Valley View Memorial Park, 4335 W. 4100 South.
