PROVO--Rosella Elna Wheeler Baker, 92, died Tuesday, December 22, 1998, of natural causes.

She was born July 29, 1906, in Slaterville, Utah, a daughter of John and Emma Sophie Manning Wheeler. She married Newel Parley Baker, June 1, 1927, in the Salt Lake Temple. He died October 16, 1987 in Provo, Utah. After graduating from Ogden High School with honors she attended Weber College and graduated with an Associate of Arts degree in 1926, following which she taught elementary school for two years in Warren, Utah, and later did substitute teaching in Bend,Oregon.

She was an active member of the LDS church and served in many positions including chorister, and teacher in Primary, Relief Society, Sunday School, and YWMIA. She served in the Primary presidency in the Roy Ward for ten years. She also served as Relief Society president in Burley, First Ward for six years. During this time she entertained many of the General Authorities in her home for 13 years while her husband served as stake president of the Burley Stake. She and her husband also served a mission in the Hawaiian Temple Visitors Center.

Survivors include four sons and two daughters: Lowell N. Baker, Parowan; Bryce W. Baker, West Point; Sharon B. Peterson, Mill City, OR; Parley John Baker, Midvale; Rosella B. Grant, Provo; David Lee Baker, Redmond, OR; and 36 grandchildren and 66 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Elna Baker. Her four brothers, Russell, Clarence, Victor, Francis, and sister, Ethel Skeen, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at the Pleasant View Fourth Ward, 2900 North 650 East, Provo, Utah on Saturday, December 26, 1998 at 12 noon. A viewing will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. funeral services at the Pleasant View Fourth Ward Chapel. Burial will be in the Roy City Cemetery, 5200 South 2300 West, Roy, Utah. Services under the direction of Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary.
