ST. GEORGE, UT--David Clarence Carlson, 97, died peacefully in his sleep on the evening of Christmas day, of congestive heart failure at Porters Nursing Home in St. George, Utah.

He was born in Ogden, Utah to Swedish immigrants on August 14, 1901. David married Janet Hope Jenkin on March 18, 1927 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, where they were sealed together for time and all eternity. Janet preceded him in death on January 1, 1993. At the age of 3 years David accompanied his parents back to Sweden where they filled a mission for the LDS Church. Later in his life, David filled his own mission, once again to Sweden, for the LDS Church. He spoke Swedish fluently, and he loved to tell all who would listen of his love for Sweden and the Swedish people.David struggled for a time with the iniquities of the world. But he never lost sight of the one shining light of his life, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In the end, David stood before his God a cleansed, humble, and repentant man. He had earned the love and respect of his progeny and all the others whose lives he had touched along the way. We are all proud to say he was ours. Farewell David, may all your dreams come true.

Those of us left behind include a son, John, of St. George; a granddaughter, Jacquelyn Guymon (Richard), of Price, Utah; a granddaughter Susan, of Charleston, South Carolina; a grandson, Steven (Diane), of Price, Utah; seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews, most of whom reside in or near Salt Lake City, also survive. David was the final survivor of nine brothers and sisters born to August Carlson and Caroline Theblom.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 29, 1998 at 1 p.m. at the 14th ward LDS chapel in Salt Lake City, 200 N. 142 W. Friends may call 1 hour prior to services. Interment will be in Salt Lake City under the direction of Spilsbury & Beard Mortuary, St. George, UT-673-2454.
