Rody's eternal sweetheart, Max Ellis Howard, age 81, died on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998 at home.

Born March 26, 1917 in Woods Cross, Utah. He was the third of 10 children born to Amasa Ray and Robenia Ellis Howard. Max graduated from Davis High School and was drafted April 1, 1941. May 1, 1942 Max married Romaine (Rody) Platts. They were sealed by David O. McKay on December 7, 1945 in the Salt Lake Temple. He was 1st Counselor in the Orchard 4th Ward High Priest Quorum, 1st Counselor in the Sunday School Presidency, Stake Baptism Coordinator for nine years and a home teacher. Max served in the European theater as a Master Sergeant Tank Commander under General Patton, receiving two Purple Hearts and the Silver Star for gallantry in action. Max retired after 27 years working at Mountain Fuel Supply Company (Questar) as an industrial supervisor. He was a part time brand inspector for the State of Utah. Next to his family, his greatest joy in life was his horses. Max was known throughout the intermountain west as an expert horse trainer.He is survived by his wife Romaine (Rody); son: Dennis A. (Linda Fitch) Howard; daughter: Cheri Lynn Kremer; grandchildren: Jason Max Howard, Matthew Paul Howard, Brian Ronald Kremer, Brett Ray Kremer, Katharine Howard, Mikell Kremer, Kevin Howard; brothers and sisters: Orlean Clarkson, Leah Peterson, Helen Christensen, Duane Howard, Peggy Stanbridge and LaRae Dillingham. Preceded in death by two beloved grandchildren Jamie Lynn Rawlins and Spencer Wade Howard.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, January 2, 1999 at the Orchard 4th Ward Chapel, 55 East 350 North, North Salt Lake. Friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and again Saturday morning from 10-11:15 a.m. at the church. Interment-Bountiful City Cemetery.
