Asa Leland Beecher, 91, changed his residence from Brigham City and River Heights to an even better place on Tuesday, 29 December 1998. He had borne the burden of Alzheimer's disease for several years.

He was born 21 March 1907 in Elba, Idaho, son of Ransom A. Beecher and Maud Barker. He moved with his family to a mountainside farm in Brigham City, Utah at the age of seven. He was an "A" student at Box Elder High School and a star distance runner on its track team. He attended Henager's Business College in Salt Lake City. In 1927-29 he fulfilled a mission for the LDS Church in Maine and New Brunswick. In 1934 he married Amelia (Amy) Madsen in the Salt Lake Temple; she died in 1992.He was civilian payroll officer at Bushnell Military Hospital in Brigham City during and after World War II. Then he worked as a field representative for the Veterans Administration.

As a member of the LDS Church, his services included stake mission leader and high councilor in the North Box Elder Stake.

In 1950 he moved his family to River Heights in Cache Valley. He was athletic financial manager, assistant registrar, acting registrar and records officer at Utah State University. In the Church he was president of the Mt. Logan and Providence Stakes, temple worker, patriarch and above all, a teacher of the Gospel.

Survivors include Dale F. Beecher of Salt Lake City, son; grandchildren, Daniel H.M. Beecher of Salt Lake City and Anne Bronwen Beecher, currently in Jiaxing, China; brothers, Elbert Beecher and Merl Beecher, both of Brigham City; and sister, Marie Rasmussen of Salt Lake City. His brothers, Vern and Delmont died earlier.

Funeral services will be held January 2, 1999 at 2 p.m. at the Myers Mortuary at 205 S. 100 E. in Brigham City, Utah. Friends may call on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Burial will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
