DUPONT, Wash. -- Computer assembly workers being laid off by Intel Corp. have been offered tax-free bonuses of $3,000 each to stay on the job for two more months.
The offer was made Thursday to 350 workers in this town south of Tacoma where Intel is closing the assembly line at its 2-year-old plant.Originally the workers were told their jobs would be gone after January, but on Thursday they were offered the bonuses to keep working through the end of March. They have been given a week to decide.
The line is being closed because more computer makers now assemble their own computers.
