Mariam Duncan, age 82, died February 14, 1998 at her daughters home in Las Vegas, Nevada.
She was born December 22, 1915 in Washington, Utah, to William ElRoy and Nellie Adaline Jolley Pectol. She married Walter Huska Olsen on December 8, 1933 in St. George, Utah. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on August 27, 1968. She married Joseph Blaine Duncan and they later divorced.Mariam grew up in Washington, lived in Pioche, NV as a young wife, then raised her family in the Salt Lake area before moving back home to Washington in 1973. She owned and operated a grocery store, clothing store and a service station. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. As an active member of the LDS Church, she served in various positions including a genealogical mission to Portland, OR and Salt Lake City.
Mariam was a wonderful baby sitter to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She devoted her life to her family whom she loved with all of her heart. An atmosphere of love was always felt in her presence. She will be greatly missed by all.
Survivors include two sons and one daughter, Lonnie Jay Olsen, Las Vegas; Rex Lynn (Hope), Sandy, UT; Neva Rene (Charles) Adams, Las Vegas; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Willard and wife, Beulah Pectol, Washington, UT.
Funeral services will be Tues., Feb. 17, 1998 at 2 p.m. at the Washington 5th Ward LDS Chapel. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the chapel prior to services. Interment will be Wed., Feb. 18, 1998 at 2 p.m. in the Memorial Estates Cemetery, Redwood Road, Salt Lake City, Utah under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary.
