Like many residents of Morris County in New Jersey, Emily Farber was recently called to do jury duty. Unlike most, she's only 7 years old.

State law requires jurors to be at least 18 years old, but the second-grader from Randolph insisted on serving, and a judge decided this week that she could participate as an observer. The girl's willingness to serve was like a breath of fresh air, Morris County jury manager Tricia Nikiel said Friday.

"Seventy-five percent of people ask to be excused, so when somebody actually wants to do it, hey, we'll give her the opportunity," she said.
