George Q. Cannon, born May 28, 1908 in Salt Lake City, to William Tenney and Emily Ada Croxall Cannon, passed away March 2, 1998 in Orem where he had lived for the past few years. Married Irene Chipman, October 19, 1927 in Heber City, Utah. Marriage later solemnized in the Hawaiian Temple.

He lived most of his adult life in Hawaii where he was retired as President of Meadow Gold Dairies-Hawaii. He attended the University of Utah and graduated from the Harvard University Advanced School of Business Management. He also received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from BYU - Hawaii Campus.

He was President of the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, Aloha Council - Boy Scouts of America and other community organizations. George was also active in the Rotary Club of Honolulu for over 40 years. During the Korean Conflict he played a key part in organizing the Korean Relief Fund and was given an Honorary Citizenship from that country in appreciation for his efforts.

George Cannon was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions including President of the Pearl Harbor Stake. He was a board member and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the church-owned Polynesian Cultural Center for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Irene Chipman; daughter, Mary Jean Slater of Stafford, VA; sons, Vance of Las Vegas, NV; George Q III of St. George, UT; nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; and a sister, Emily Pollei. Preceded in death by two daughters, Jeanne and Mary Jane.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 6th, 12 Noon, Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, where friends may call 10:45 - 11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
