Michael Bradley sounded like anything but a winner before the final round of the Doral-Ryder Open in Miami.
After Sunday's play, he not only was the winner, but he did it by bouncing back from perhaps the shortest missed putt in the history of professional golf."I'll go out tomorrow and give it 110 percent," Bradley said on the eve of the final round in which he would hold off John Huston and Billy Mayfair by one stroke.
"Whether that's winning or finishing 10th or finishing fourth or fifth, there's not much I can do."
Bradley was wrong in that assessment. He did a lot on Sunday in another wind-blown round at the Blue Monster.
His only bogey of the day came on a missed 8-inch putt on No. 11, yet somehow he managed to regroup and play the final seven holes one under par to win.
Bradley closed with a 71 to finish at 10-under-par 278, one stroke better than Huston and Mayfair, for his second career victory on the PGA Tour.
Huston, whose 67 was bettered by no one in the last round, was trying for his second victory this year. Mayfair, who defeated Tiger Woods in a playoff last week, was trying for his second victory in a row after going more than two years without a win.
Greater Austin Open
At Austin, Texas, Michael Allen won the Nike Tour's Greater Austin Open on Sunday, closing with a 4-under 76 in windy conditions for a two-stroke victory over Chris Zambri and Gene Sauers.
Allen had an 8-under 280 total. Casey Martin, making his first start since a federal court ruled that he can use a cart in tour competition, shot a 78 to tie for 16th at 288.
Qatar Masters
At Doha, Qatar, Scotland's Andrew Coltart won his first European tour title Sunday, closing with a 5-under 67 for a two-stroke victory in the Qatar Masters.
