Pat Boone's got a brand new bag - a rhythm and blues album with James Brown, the Four Tops and the Temptations. "Who would have thought?" Brown said Monday after a recording session in Augusta, Ga.

Following his heavy metal release last year, the former squeaky clean Boone said the new album will be perceived as "light years away from me.""James Brown's flashy, showy, high-energy, drama - he's the essence of soul and R&B. I'm laid-back, cool, proper - almost the quintessential WASP. Mr. White Bread personified," Boone said.

Boone raised eyebrows when he wore leather pants and a dog collar to the American Music Awards last year to promote his album of heavy metal covers. His weekly gospel show was canceled by Trinity Broadcasting after the career change.
