49ERS ACQUIRE BROWN: Moving to shore up an offensive line depleted by retirement and injury, the San Francisco 49ers completed a trade with the Denver Broncos for tackle Jamie Brown.

The 49ers sent the Broncos a 1999 second-round draft pick in exchange for Brown. The teams agreed to the trade Tuesday, but the deal wasn't finalized until the 49ers and Brown reached agreement on a three-year contract.

RAIDERS WELCOME ALLEN: The Oakland Raiders officially welcomed six-time Pro Bowl cornerback Eric Allen, and set the stage for the departure of four-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Chester McGlockton.

Allen was traded to Oakland from New Orleans for a draft pick in March, but at first threatened to retire.

BENGALS' COPELAND RUPTURES ACHILLES: Cincinnati Bengals defensive end John Copeland ruptured his left Achilles' tendon working out at Auburn University in Alabama. Copeland was scheduled to have surgery today. Copeland, 27, signed a five-year contract in February for nearly $15 million.

DUCKETT DEAD AT 38: Kenny Duckett, a former Wake Forest and NFL receiver who suffered from kidney failure, was found dead at his home in Winston-Salem, N.C. Duckett, who was 38, spent three seasons with the New Orleans Saints and one with the Dallas Cowboys.

COLTS SIGN SMALL: The Indianapolis Colts might change their draft plans for the second round after signing wide receiver Torrance Small as an unrestricted free agent. The Colts were believed to be considering a wide receiver in the second round after not being able to come to terms with unrestricted free agent Sean Dawkins.
