Actor Mykelti Williamson, best known for his role as "Bubba" in the film "Forrest Gump," was ordered Friday to stand trial for attempted manslaughter for allegedly stabbing his exwife's boy-friend.

Los Angeles Municipal Court Judge Elva Soper denied a demand by prosecutors that Williamson, 40, should face attempted murder charges. No trial date was set for the actor, who is free on $180,000 bail.

Williamson was arrested Jan. 5 on suspicion of stalking his ex-wife, Cheryl Chisholm, 33, and stabbing her boyfriend, 32-year-old Leroy Edwards, with a butcher knife.
