Danny Manning went down with another knee injury, Shawn Kemp was knocked unconscious and Rod Strickland pulled up lame.
Manning's injury appeared the most serious. He was flown back to Phoenix after injuring the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the Suns' 103-97 victory at Sacramento. Manning has already undergone reconstructive surgery on both knees after suffering ACL injuries in the past."I believe I've blown it out again, that's my personal opinion," a dejected Manning said as he sat in the visitor's training room at Arco Arena. "I'm expecting the worse and hoping for the best. I've been there before, I know what to expect."
Kemp was knocked cold when he collided with Derrick McKey's elbow during the second quarter of the Cavs' loss at Indiana. He was carted off the court on a stretcher before returning to play the second half.
"I didn't really even ask what happened," Kemp said. "That's what the game is about. You get hit and you've got to bounce back and take it and just go on."
Strickland suffered a strained left quadriceps late in the first half of the Wizards' loss at Chicago. He played only two minutes in the second half.
SUNS 103, KINGS 97: Manning was carried off the court by two teammates during the first quarter after he fell during a fast break opportunity while trying to handle a pass from Cliff Robinson.
Manning, a leading contender for the Sixth Man of the Year award while averaging 13.7 points per game in his 10th NBA season, previously underwent major surgery on both his left knee (Dec. 18, 1995) and his right (Jan. 14, 1989).
PACERS 82, CAVALIERS 80: Reggie Miller's 22-footer with 8.8 seconds left broke an 80-80 tie that came about when Kemp hit two free throws with 26.2 seconds left.
Kemp finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds after missing five of his first six shots before getting injured.
BULLS 103, WIZARDS 85: The loss dropped the troubled Wizards (38-38) 11/2 games behind New Jersey for the eighth playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Bulls won their 13th straight behind 30 points from Michael Jordan and 20 rebounds from Dennis Rodman.
"Rod Strickland got hurt and they lost the head of the body," Jordan said. "They didn't know where to follow from that point. He ignites their offense."
TIMBERWOLVES 92, HEAT 89: At Minneapolis, Kevin Garnett had 27 points and 14 boards to lead the Wolves within one victory of a franchise record for wins.
Alonzo Mourning, who missed the two previous games with a fractured cheekbone, had 28 points and nine rebounds while wearing a face mask.
HAWKS 92, KNICKS 79: At Atlanta, Dikembe Mutombo matched a season-high with 19 rebounds in addition to 17 points and six blocks, Alan Henderson added 20 points and Mookie Blaylock had 17.
Charles Oakley of New York was called for a flagrant foul on Mutombo. If it is upheld, he will miss tonight's game against Miami for accumulating his seventh flagrant foul point.
TRAIL BLAZERS 99, MAVERICKS 91: At Dallas, Isaiah Rider scored 26 points and Walt Williams, Rasheed Wallace and Brian Grant all had 17 points for the Trail Blazers, who have won six of their last eight.
Shawn Bradley had 22 points, 22 rebounds and a career-high 13 blocks for his fifth career triple-double.
ROCKETS 104, NUGGETS 87: At Denver, Clyde Drexler moved past Patrick Ewing into 17th place on the NBA's career scoring list with 22,085 points as Houston ended its six-game losing streak.
BUCKS 114, RAPTORS 105: At Milwaukee, Ray Allen scored 28 points as the rejuvenated Bucks won for the fourth time in five games. The Raptors lost their 10th straight, the longest current skid in the NBA.
GRIZZLIES 110, CLIPPERS 94: At Los Angeles, Shareef Abdur-Rahim had 30 points and Bryant Reeves had 25 as the Grizzlies equaled the largest margin of victory in franchise history.
