One lumber company - Anderson - is planning a big relocation in the city, while another - Burton - is currently building a new store on Layton's west side.

Anderson Lumber Co. has announced plans to relocate and build on West Hill Field Road. Burton Lumber, a new company to Layton, is building a new store on Gordon Avenue, between the two railroad tracks.According to Layton economic development specialist Tom Christopulos, Burton Lumber hopes to open its new store at about 1700 W. Gordon by late summer.

Anderson, which has been cramped between the Union Pacific Railroad tracks and Cross Street at its current location since 1983, has purchased eight acres at 1650 W. Hill Field Road.

"We have a completed store and site plan and expect to begin construction immediately with a planned completion date of August 1998," Anderson Lumber President James C. Beardall said.

The store will also include a door manufacturing plant. Anderson has 12 stores in Utah.

Christopulos said Anderson will be building on Hill Field Road almost directly south from Marshall Street.

Both lumber stores will be located on opposite ends of the city's industrial park.

"It'll create a nice, little construction district," Christopulos said.
