A former congressional aide has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for food stamp fraud, the U.S. Agriculture Department said Friday.
Tyrone Watford of South Bend, Ind., was also ordered to pay $26,000 in restitution after pleading guilty to charges of money-laundering and redeeming illegally received food stamps.
The sentence was one of the longest ever for food stamp fraud, the department said.

The 49-year-old Watford worked as an aide to former Rep. John Hiler, an Indiana Republican, during the 1980s.
