The University Park Hotel in the University of Utah Research Park has become a franchise of the Marriott hotel group and is undergoing a renovation of its guest rooms, grand ballroom, lobby and the concierge lounge.

"We believe this change is exciting and positive for the property," said John Rogers, general manager."Our affiliation with Marriott will allow us to provide the best quality service to local citizens, businesses and area visitors."

The name of the hotel has been changed to the Salt Lake City Marriott University Park.

Built in 1997, the hotel is owned by Sunstone Hotel Investors Inc. and continues Sunstone's conversion to the well-known Marriott brand. Sunstone's Provo Park Hotel was recently converted to a full-service Marriott, and the Ogden Park Hotel and Olympia Park Hotel in Park City are scheduled for conversion to Marriott later this year.

Sunstone currently operates five hotels in Utah with more than 1,500 rooms.
