JoAnn Sylvester Bate, age 77.
She relished the challenge of finding happiness in life and was an accomplished seamstress, creating beautiful and stylish clothing and Afghans, favoring pastels and earth colors. JoAnn had a passion for art, wrote some powerful poetry, and loved her family unconditionally. She believed in the goodness of people and always supported racial justice. She passed away peacefully Monday night from complications caused by surgery for colon cancer. Preceded in death by two children, Robert and Dana Jene, and a great-grandchild, Charisse Azevedo.A special thanks to the staff at LDS Hospital 8E, Dr. Noyes, Dr. Reilly and Kara.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 22, 1998 at 10 a.m. at the Salt Lake 11th Ward, 951 East 100 South. Friends may call prior to the service at the Ward from 9-9:45 a.m. Burial will follow in the Salt Lake City Cemetery, 4th Ave. & "N" Street. Service under the direction of Russon Brothers Mortuary, Salt Lake City.
