Betty L. Hansen passed away unexpectedly May 21, 1998 at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo.
She was born in Hiawatha, Utah on December 9, 1930, the youngest daughter of George A. and Christine Petersen Allred. Betty grew up in Carbon and Sanpete counties. She attended school in Price and Ephraim, and was a graduate of Carbon College (College of Eastern Utah). She earned her BS degree from Brigham Young University in 1953.Later that year, while working in Washington, D.C., she met Gene Hansen, her husband to be, who was then serving in the US Navy. They were married in the Manti Temple the following year. Together they raised four wonderful children, and lived together in love for 44 years.
Betty was an exemplary wife, mother, and grandmother. She was also a talented administrator who managed to fit a successful professional career into her productive life. Included in her experience, for example, was 15 years of service as the Graduations Supervisor of both Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, and Snow College in Ephraim.
She was a member of the The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints, and an active participant therein throughout her life. She was an especially effective teacher. At the time of her passing, she was serving as the spiritual living instructor in the Relief Society organization of her ward.
Betty is survived by her husband, Gene; by her children: Deborah Jean Plummer (Mark), Ephraim; Steven Kent Hansen (Anita), Sandy; Catherine Ann Shipley, South Jordan; and Brenda Kay Hansen, Salt lake City; by 19 beautiful grandchildren; by her sisters: LaRue Breinholt, Price, and Elaine Jarrett (Ray), Huntsville, and by her brother. G. Allen Allred (Norma), Salt Lake City.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 26th, at 11 a.m. in the Ephraim Stake Center, 400 East and Center Street in Ephraim. The viewing will be from 9-11 a.m. prior to the service. Graveside services will occur at approximately 3 p.m. in the Orem City Cemetery, 1520 No. 800 East in Orem. Arrangements: Berg Mortuary, Provo.
