Rock guitarist Robbie Robertson took home the lifetime achievement award at the first Native American Music Awards.

Wayne Newton hosted the ceremony Sunday night, which was attended by nearly 1,500 people at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard, Conn.Robertson, a Mohawk descendant, was honored for helping open the door to the music world for American Indians. More than 150 musicians were nominated for awards in 20 categories.
