Dorothy Stickney, who originated the role of the mother in the Broadway play "Life With Father" and appeared in one hit after another during a career that spanned a half-century, has died. She was 101.

Stickney died Tuesday at her Manhattan home."Life With Father," which opened in 1939 and ran for seven years, was - and still is - the longest-running nonmusical play in Broadway history. Based on Clarence Day's reminiscences about growing up in 1880s New York, the play told the tale of a family led by an often-exasperating father, whose foibles were offset by his wife's charm and patience.
