The submarine was attacking a convoy of Japanese ships on Aug. 24, 1944, when it apparently was hit. Crew members in another American submarine heard a series of explosions near the Harder. The Harder and its 79 crew members were never heard from again. The open house goes from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Utah State Veterans Memorial Cemetery, just north of Camp Williams on Redwood Road. Other veterans will be there to honor the Harder's crew members and remember the sacrifices the men made. The flag ceremony begins at 4 p.m.
