Grant Odell Boam, age 84, passed away August 4, 1998 in Taylorsville, Utah.

Born September 26, 1913 in Downey, Idaho, son of Thomas and Eileen Bagley Boam. Graduated from Utah State University in 1937 and Colorado State University as Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1948. He provided veterinary service to large and small dairy herds in Salt Lake, Tooele and Summit Counties for 30 years. Married Afton Gold, September 16, 1936 in the Salt Lake Temple. Grant served in many positions for the LDS Church. He and his wife, Afton, served in the San Antonio, Texas mission in 1978-80. Following their mission they served many years as workers in the Jordan River Temple.Grant was a tough man with a gentle spirit. He taught his posterity well and will be remembered for his love of good poetry, his quick wit and his wry sense of humor. "Heaven is a happier place now that Grandpa has arrived."

Survived by wife, Afton; children, Anne (Richard) Smith, Tooele; Dr. G. Wayne (Sharon) Boam, Taylorsville; Joyce (Brent) Anderson, Holladay; Thomas Lee (Myrna) Boam, Consul General, Dusseldorf, Germany; foster daughter, Jane (Sherwin) Seamons, Mendon, Utah; 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, Gail Boam, Downey, Idaho.

Preceded in death by parents; brother, Arthur Boam; sister, Merle Forrest.

Funeral service will be held Friday, 12 noon at the Taylorsville Stake Center, 4845 South Woodhaven Drive. Friends may call Thursday, 5-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Friday at the church, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park.
