Rex, a King Charles Cavalier spaniel, is seen in 1986 as then-President Ronald Reagan and his wife, Nancy, strolled along the White House south lawn. Rex died Monday of complications from an enlarged heart and will be buried at Rancho del Cielo, the Reagans' former ranch outside Santa Barbara in the Santa Ynez Mountains. Rex, who was 13 when he died, came as a Christmas present in 1985. It was reported at the time that Rex was a gift from the president to his wife, but the dog was really a gift from commentator William Buckley. In January 1989, White House staffers gave the Reagans farewell gifts, including a replica of the White House for Rex.
