WEST YELLOWSTONE, Mont. (AP) -- A University of Colorado ski team member was killed and another injured in a snowmobile accident in Yellowstone National Park, park officials said.
The two were on a rented snowmobile about five miles inside the park Monday when it went off the trail and hit a tree, said park spokeswoman Marsha Karle. The crash was still being investigated, she said.
The woman, whom University of Colorado spokesmen identified as Lucy Hanusova, died at the scene of the 12:30 p.m. crash of head injuries, Karle said. She was wearing a helmet.
The man, whom the school identified as Casey Ward of Aspen, Colo., suffered a broken leg and a fractured jaw, Karle said.
He was taken by helicopter ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where a hospital spokeman said he was listed in serious condition.
Hanusova, a freshman from Czechoslovakia and member of the University of Colorado Nordic team, had finished second in 10,000 free style cross country and fifth in classics during the weekend Montana State Invitational meet won by Colorado. The nordic meet was held at Bohart Ranch near Bozeman, Mont.
Ward finished 25th in the men's 10K classic on Friday.
