Erica Young, below, a friend of one of the crash victims, reads a new plaque on a rock near the helipad at the University Hospital. The University Hospital AirMed helicopter slammed into the side of the canyon just a few seconds after taking off from a parking lot at Snowbird Ski Resort Jan. 12, 1998.

The AirMed medical rescue group, which has its own team of nurses, pilots and paramedics, operates within the emergency room at the University Hospital.

The rock will stand as a memorial, signifying the mountains in which so many rescues take place and in which the AirMed crew lost their lives that day.
