SANTA MARIA, California--Lawrence Martin Kite, 74, of Santa Maria, California, passed away Monday, January 11, 1999 from kidney failure.

He was born in Bingham Canyon, Utah on December 21, 1925 to Alfred Arnold Kite and Blanche Fullmer Kite Spanos. He was reared and educated in Bingham Canyon, Utah. He joined the United States Navy in 1944. He worked 14 years at Kennecott Copper as a heavy equipment operator, and then spent 25 years with Granite Construction, where he became a construction superintendent and worked on various projects throughout the United States. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local #3 for 35 years. He was also a member of the Santa Maria Elks Lodge.He married Carolyn Musick of Park City, Utah on September 17, 1956 and they became the parents of two sons, James (Jimmy) Alfred Kite and Lawrence Martin Kite Jr. (Marty).

He was preceded in death by his parents and his eldest son, Jimmy. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; son, Marty and Kelli Kite, Hollister, California; grandchildren, Jason Strickland, Louisiana; Martin and Kara Kite, Hollister, California; he also survived by one brother and one sister, George Kite (Hildagarde), Magna; Katherine Spanos Garamendi, South Jordan.

Lawrence loved fishing, square dancing, traveling with Carolyn in their motorhome, gardening-especially his beautiful roses, and being with people whom he loved. He was a very gentle, caring person and will be dearly missed by all those whose lives he touched.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999 at 11 a.m. in the Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St, Midvale, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Interment, Park City Cemetery.
